“Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” — Psalm 139:23-24
The psalmist David prayed for God to examine his heart and mind, asking for divine insight and correction. His desire was for God’s truth to reveal any sin or wrongdoing in him so that he could walk in righteousness. David asked the Lord to lead him on the “everlasting way,” which refers to the path of truth and eternal life.
We should have the same thought as David did. We need to have an open, honest relationship with our Lord, where we invite Him to search our hearts and minds. David’s words should encourage us to seek God’s guidance in identifying areas of our lives that are not in accord with His will. Do we desire to be led by God in paths that lead to eternal life? Are we allowing Him to correct and refine us? This is a call for self-examination and a willingness to follow the Lord’s ways, no matter where they lead.
