“They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them. But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.” He took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.” –Mark 10:13-16
People were bringing children to Jesus for a blessing, but the disciples tried to stop them, likely thinking Jesus had more important matters to attend to. However, Jesus was upset by this and made it clear that children are valuable in God’s eyes. He taught that the Kingdom of God belongs to those who have childlike qualities: humility, trust, and openness. Only those who receive God’s Kingdom with simple, sincere faith will enter it. Then, Jesus embraced the children and blessed them.
We should approach the Lord with the same trust and humility as a child—dependent, eager to learn, and without pride. Faith isn’t about intellectual superiority or status; it’s about sincere belief and willingness to follow God with an open heart. Just as Jesus welcomed the children, we too should nurture faith in the young and recognize that all people, regardless of status, are precious to Him.
