Manna – March 21

“You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore my joy is made full.” — John 3:28-29

John the Baptist made sure his followers knew that he was not their Messiah but was sent to prepare the way for Him. He compared Jesus to a bridegroom and himself to the friend (or best man), whose role is to support and rejoice in the bridegroom’s presence. John found joy in Jesus’ arrival, knowing that his mission is being fulfilled.

What a wonderful example John teaches us about humility and purpose. Like John, we are not the central focus — Christ is. Our role is to point others to Him, rejoicing when His work is accomplished. Let’s find joy in Christ’s presence and embrace our role in God’s plan, whether big or small, with a heart of humility and gratitude.
